THE SHEPHERDS REJOICE

Hello!  This is Vicky, and I have another wonderful story to tell you from the Bible.

One dark night, out in the fields of Bethlehem, there were some shepherds.  These shepherds were staying awake to guard the sheep.  All the other people in the town were fast asleep.  The shepherds had built a fire and they were sitting around it trying to keep warm.  The stars were twinkling over their heads and the wind rustled gently in the grass.  All was calm and still.  They could hear the little sheep, going "baaah, baaah, baaah" out in the field.

Suddenly the shepherds were startled, for it seemed as though the sun had begun to shine!  In the middle of this frightfully bright light was an angel, who had come from heaven.  The shepherds were very much afraid.  "Don't be afraid," said the angel, "For I have come to tell you something which will make you very, very happy.  The Lord Jesus has been born.  The Savior for whom you have waited so long has been born in Bethlehem.  Go and see!  You cannot be mistaken, for you will find the baby Jesus wrapped in some soft cloth and lying in a manger in a stable."

And all at once, with this brilliant angel, there were many, many more angels--HUNDREDS-and they were filling the whole sky.  And they sang a song together--the most beautiful song the shepherds had ever heard...'Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth to men.'  They were singing and singing, glory to God in the highest.  And as the angels sang they soared higher and higher, and went back to heaven.

All was quiet once again in the fields of Bethlehem.  The shepherds, however, couldn't go back to just sitting around their campfire.  "Come quickly," they said, "Let us go to Bethlehem, where we can see what the angel has told us about.  The Savior has been born.  How wonderful!  Let us go and find him!"

So they quickly walked away and they looked for the stables, and when they found it they walked quietly in and they saw the baby Jesus, with his mother Mary and his father Joseph.  They knelt down and worshipped and adored the baby.  They didn't have any gifts for him, but they said, "We will love you and serve you."  And then they went out and they started to tell many other people about the baby, and they even sang the song the angels had taught them.  "Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth to men."
