THE LORD JESUS GOES TO HEAVEN
This wonderful story is found in the Bible, in the Book of Acts, Chapter 1. After the Lord Jesus had risen from the grave, he stayed on earth with his disciples for forty days. His work on earth was done. He had finished it all and He was going to go back to His Father in heaven. Jesus told his disciples that they must go into the whole world and tell all men everywhere about Him. It was going to be wonderful work, but very hard and dangerous. But Jesus said that they didn't need to be afraid. He said, "Even though I will go away, I will not leave you alone. I will send you someone who will always be with you. He is the Holy Spirit. But you need to wait here in Jerusalem until the Holy Spirit comes. He will teach you and train you and be your helper and your guide. He will also teach how to pray. After this, Jesus said to them, " Come, let us go for a walk."
They went outside of the city of Jerusalem and they walked about a half of a mile up to the Mount of Olives. They slowly climbed up to the top of the mountain. As Jesus looked at his disciples with loving eyes, He raised his hands and blessed them and prayed.
All of a sudden, He started going upwards. He was being lifted up into the blue sky and going higher and higher into the clouds. The disciples fell down on their knees and they were say, “Dear Lord Jesus, are you really leaving us? Don’t go.” And they kept staring and staring and watching him as long as they could. And then they saw a big white cloud float across the sky and it took Jesus up into heaven. They could see him no longer. And even though he’d gone, they kept stayed there staring.
Suddenly two beautiful, bright shining angels, bright as the sun, came and stood by them. "Why are you men looking up to heaven? The Lord Jesus has gone up to His Father and just as you saw him go up to heaven, so will He come back someday. He will come back down in the same way, in the clouds."
You know, the disciples then were no longer sad. They went home glad saying, "How wonderful it is now that Jesus is up in heaven with his Father and we will wait for the Holy Spirit to come.” So they went back to Jerusalem to wait for this very special promise that God had given to them.
