Gifts From the Magi
This wonderful story is found in the Bible in Matthew Chapter 2. Just after Jesus was born far, far in the east, lived some Wise Men called Magi. They had read many big books and they were wiser and more clever than anyone else. At night they liked to look up at the stars and study them because they were so beautiful and interesting. One night as they were watching the stars they saw a new one. It was a star that they had never seen before. What a big star it was and how brightly it shown. It seemed to be the King of all the other stars. The Wise Men kept watching it. "A new star! Do you know what it means? It means a child has been born somewhere. And this child must be very important. He must be a King! " For a long time they watched the star. They couldn't think of anything else. And then one of them said "let us go and find this special new little King! We will kneel before him and we will bring him many, many gifts."
They got their servants together and started packing. They collected water and food and provisions and they loaded up their many camels. They also packed gold and their riches and their finest Kingly robes and off they went. Oh, it was a long trip. They traveled over mountains and through great forests. They had to ride through strange lands where they had never been before. They traveled and traveled and traveled and kept followed the star until they came to the land of the Jews; to Israel. And the star stopped moving. "The young King must be here" they said. So they decided to go to large palace in the city of Jerusalem. That's where you find Kings and Palaces.
So they went to the King and they said "King Herod we have come to worship your new King." Now Herod was the King at that time and he was older and he didn't want any new baby King. So he got his scribes, the people who know all about the Bible and he said to them "do you know where the King is to be born?" And they said "oh yes, in Bethlehem."
So Herod told these Wise Men, "it has been written in your Bible that the King will be born in Bethlehem." So off they went and they found in the town of Bethlehem that the star stopped right over a little house. It was the house where Mary and Joseph and the little baby Jesus were. Except Jesus wasn't a little baby anymore. He was about one or two years old. When they went to Him, they knelt before Him. "Oh King Jesus how glad we are to have found you." And they brought in the presents. They brought in gold, a jar full of incense and a box of myrrh. They were beautiful and expensive gifts. And the Wise Men were so happy and full of joy to give these gifts to the new King.
At Christmas we give beautiful gifts to each other also. We celebrate the birthday of Jesus. But you know boys and girls, that the best gift of all is Jesus. He is our special gift from God.
