JESUS' FIRST MIRACLE

 

     This wonderful story is found in the Bible in Gospel of John Chapter 2. 

   

     It was an exciting time in the town of Cana.  All the people were dressed in their very best clothes.  Everyone was singing and laughing and were very, very happy.  A young man and a young woman were in love, and they were getting married.  The aunts, and the uncles and the cousins and best friends were coming to a glorious, wonderful wedding feast.  Mary, the mother of the Lord Jesus was there, and also the Lord Jesus and some of his disciples had been invited.  Oh, it was a wonderful time.  God was making a new family.  But, right in the middle of the wedding feast a problem came up...a very embarrassing problem.  And Mary, because she knew the people very well, knew the problem. 

 

    You see, they were running out of wine, and this is what the people were drinking at the wedding feast.  What were they going to do?  So Mary looked for Jesus and she said to him, "They have no wine."  Mary knew that Jesus would help because he cared.  So Mary told the servant, "Whatever he says to you, do it."  Now there were six big clay water pots sitting by the door, and these were to be used for washing, and they could hold up to 30 gallons of water, but right now they were empty.  So Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the water pots with water."  And they filled them up to the brim...to the very tip top.  And then he said to them, "Take some out and take it to the head waiter."  And they took some of it to him, and when the head waiter tasted the water, it had become wine.  You see, the six jars had been full of just water, and Jesus didn't have to even touch them to turn the water into wine.  He can do anything because he is God.

 

            Now this is called a miracle.  A miracle is a wonderful thing that only God can do.  So the chief waiter was so excited, he said, "This wine is so much better than the wine we had before.  You have saved the best wine to be served last."  The Lord Jesus had made the very best.

 

            Jesus can also do the very best for you.  He can bring joy and happiness to your life.  The Bible tells us that this was the very first miracle the Lord Jesus did.  And because of it, many more people believed in him.
