HEALING THE NOBLEMAN'S SON
This wonderful story is found in the Bible in the Gospel of John, Chapter 4.
One bright, sunny day, when Jesus was back in Cana - remember Cana? This was the little town where Jesus had gone to the wedding feast and had changed the water into wine. This is called a miracle, when God does something that man cannot do.
While Jesus and His disciples were back in Cana, the people were very excited to see Him again and all throughout the land, the people were talking about this wonderful man named, Jesus, and how He was talking about God and healing many people. About 20 miles away in a city called, Capernium, there was a Nobleman. Now this man, was a very important man and people obeyed him and served him. He had control and command over many, many servants and over many people of the city. He was very prestigious and very wealthy. He lived in a glorious big home and he had many horses and chariots. This Nobleman was very wise and kind and people really did like him. He had a very special son. A son that he loved to play with and run with and they did many wonderful things together, and he loved this boy very much.
But, one day the boy became very, very sick. He became so sick that he had a high fever and he was hot and he hurt all over and he got worse and worse. This was a very sad time for his father. Nobody could help his boy get better. Even with all his riches, he couldn’t buy healing for his son. Was he going to die? What could this father do? It was a very big problem. Somehow this Nobleman heard that Jesus was in Cana. Jesus' fame had spread throughout that whole country of Galilee and the Nobleman thought possibly he could heal his son. So he got his servants and all their horses and chariot together and he traveled 20 miles to Cana. He went as fast as he could. It took him about four hours to travel to Cana through the rugged hills. And when he came into the town, he didn’t even slow down and stop to rest, but he raised over the cobblestones making lots of noise as he rushed here and rushed there looking for Jesus. He didn't stop to talk to anyone. He just wanted to find Jesus quickly to get Him save his son. The Nobleman looked and looked and looked and then, there He was. There were people all around Jesus. He was teaching them all about God and healing them. The Nobleman couldn't wait to listen. He ran right up to Jesus, and he said "Please sir, come with me to my home in Capernium before my child dies. He is very, very sick and only you can save him. Come with me." Jesus looked at the Nobleman. He stopped His teaching and He answered him in a very kind way. He said "Go your way, your son lives."
Now Jesus was seeing if this man had faith. Faith is believing something will happen. Now if this man really believed in Jesus' word, he would have faith. Jesus is the Son of God and He could heal the boy, even 20 miles away and you know, the Nobleman truly believed Jesus. He did have faith and he thanked Him, he got back on his horse and he rode off. And do you know what he did next? He actually spent the rest of the day doing his work in Cana. He didn't even fret or worry or race back home. The next day he got all of his provisions ready and then he went back to Capernium. As he was getting pretty close to his house and the sun was beginning to set, and the servants and slaves saw him coming over the little hill, they ran out to meet him and they started shouting - everyone shouting, "your son is living, your son is living. He is better. The fever has left him." And then the Nobleman asked them, "At what hour did he get better?" And they said to him "Yesterday, yesterday at 1:00 p.m." Then the father knew that it was the exact hour in which Jesus said to him "Your son lives."
He was so excited because he truly then believed that Jesus was the Son of God and he knew how wonderful and powerful He really was. He ran into his house and he hugged his son and picked him up and hugged all of his family. Everyone that lived in his house then believed in Jesus and they all thanked God and praised Him for making the sick boy well.
