JESUS APPEARS BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

This wonderful story is found in the Bible, in the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 24.  The disciples of Jesus and some of his friends were gathered together in a room in a house in Jerusalem.  They had their door locked and they were whispering, and they were very frightened, because Jesus  had died on the cross and they were His best friends.  So they thought the rulers would come and get them and hurt them.

All of a sudden, there was a knocking on the door, and they went slowly and said, “Who is it?”  “It is I, Cleopas” answered one of the two men.  “Please let us in.  We have something exciting to tell you.”  They opened the door quickly and said, “Hurry, come in.”  As the two men got into the room, they quickly bolted the door again.  Cleopas was so excited.  “We have seen Jesus.  We have seen Jesus.  He walked with us on the Emmaus Road today, and He talked to us for hours.  Isn’t it wonderful.  He has risen from the dead and we couldn’t wait to tell you.  That is why we hurried back here to Jerusalem from Emmaus.”  Peter said, “Yes, He has really risen, our Lord and Master.  I have also seen Him today.”  And Mary Magdalene said, “I saw Jesus this morning in the garden.”

They were so busy talking and sharing and then wondering where Jesus was now and what He was going to do, that suddenly, Jesus stood right there in the room with them.  But could it really by the Lord Jesus?  How could he have come in?  The door was locked.  The windows were locked and tightly closed.  He just appeared.  They were so startled and very much afraid.  Is it a ghost?  Is it a spirit?  But Jesus kindly said, “Oh, don’t be afraid, because it is me, it is Jesus.  Come and see.  Come and touch me and look at me.  Then you will see that it is I, the Lord.  Then he showed them His hands and His feet.  The marks of the nails were still there, the nails that they had used to put Him on the cross.  They could see the scars.  They could see the red spots from the blood.  He showed them so they really knew.  They touched him.  He had a body.  It was a real body like a real person.  And then Jesus said, “Do you have something to eat?”  “Oh, yes.  Oh, yes.”  They gave him some broiled fish and so they watched Him eat and they truly believed, yes, this couldn’t be a ghost.  He’s eating food.  They got more and more comfortable.  Their dear master was alive.  Here He was with them, and He sat down with them at the table, just as he had before.  Now they could listen and speak to Him again.

Oh what a wonderful evening they were having together.  Jesus told them to stay in Jerusalem and He gave them a very special promise.  He said, “I am going to send you a helper.  You will receive the Holy Spirit.  And the spirit will empower you and teach you even more things than I have taught you.  I am going to have to leave soon because I’m going to go back to heaven.”  But that night, they had such a wonderful time together.  They truly believed that Jesus was the Son of God.

Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God?  If you do, then pray with me now.  Dear Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for me.  Forgive me of all my sins.  Please come into my heart and be my Savior and Lord.  Thank you for loving me so much.  Amen.
