BABY JESUS IS BORN

Hello, this is Vicky and I have a wonderful story for you from the Bible.  I think this is the most beautiful story ever told.

Mary and Joseph were married, as they had planned.  And one day after they had been married for awhile, they had to travel to the City of Bethlehem, which was a long way away.  You see, the emperor wanted to know how many people lived in the land, so all the people had to have their names recorded, each in his own city.  Mary and Joseph had to go from Nazareth to Bethlehem.  Now it was a long, long journey, and they couldn't go by train, they couldn't go by airplane, they couldn't go by car, because there weren't any.  They had to walk.  Joseph walked and he had put Mary on a donkey.  You see, Mary was almost ready to have her baby.  They walked and walked.

Finally, it was evening and the sun was beginning to go down and it was beginning to cool off.  Joseph said, "Oh Mary, it's only a little further!  We're almost there!  See the little houses in Bethlehem...see the little white houses in the distance.  Pretty soon we'll find a place where you can sleep."

When they got into Bethlehem they went to an inn.  They were sure they could get a room at the inn.  Joseph knocked on the door and he asked them, "Do you have a place for us to sleep?"  Well, there were so many people traveling at this time to record their names in the book, there wasn't any room in the inn.  There wasn't any room in any house for Mary and Joseph.

Well, finally they found a little stable in back of the inn, and they went inside.  The sheep weren't there because they were out to pasture, and there may have been a cow, and it was quiet and dark there.  But there was some nice clean straw, and Joseph made a bed of hay so Mary could lie down on the nice straw.  Well, everything grew very, very still.  The stars twinkled high in the sky, for it was nighttime in Bethlehem.  Then something wonderful happened in the still, dark night, in the poor stable--Mary had her baby!  The baby that the angel Gabriel had promised her.  Oh, it was a tiny sweet little baby, just as small and dear as all newborn babies.  But he wasn't the same as just any baby--he was a holy child, for he was the Son of God.  And when he grew up he would be king of heaven and earth.

Oh, Mary was very happy with her child.  She held him in her arms and she kissed him, and Joseph was very happy too.  He would touch the little baby's cheek with his big hand.  Mary didn't have any baby clothes, but she did have some pieces of cloth, so she wrapped these around the baby.  They didn't even have a crib or a bassinet, but Joseph took a manger-a feeding trough--and he cleaned it out and he made a little tiny bed of straw and there Mary laid her baby in the manger.

"He will be called Jesus," said Mary.  "This is what the angel said."  There lay the little king--king Jesus--in a feeding box  that belongs to animals.  The Son of God had been born in a stable.  But as of yet, no-one else knew about his birth.
